Viña Del Mar – Garden City

If you’re looking for a cozy beach spot just 90 minutes from Santiago, Viña Del Mar offers a quiet reprieve with beautiful views, beaches and even an oceanfront Sheraton for all the comforts of home. Known as the Garden City because of the city’s many flowers and parks, it has a polished, modern feel that sharply contrasts with its gritty, bohemian next door neighbor Valparaiso. It’s the perfect place for a few days of lounging on the beach in the summertime, or enjoying the ocean views and checking out the town’s touristy spots in the cooler wintertime.

A must grab tourist photo is in front of the Reloj de Flores (Flower Clock) – the symbol of the town.  Afterwards you can meander along the seaside to enjoy the views and make your way to the beautifully landscaped Parque Quinta Vergara which showcases plants from all over the world.  Onsite in the park is the Venetian style Palacio Vergara built in 1908, Museo de Bellas Artas and a large outdoor amphitheater.

In case you can’t make it all the way to Easter Island you can visit the Museo de Arquelogico e Historia Francisco Fonck which features an original moai stone statue out front and a detailed history on Easter Island inside. Afterwards you can try your luck at the Municipal Casino to see if you can win some extra funds for your travels.
