Thursday October 8th:
This morning we get up and make our way to the famous Kings Cross area where we have booked to stay at the Pink House. Kings Cross is known as the Red Light district of Sydney, although in recent years it has toned down a lot. That being said, there are still lots of bars and strip joints, the perfect place for backpackers. The area has a buzz to it, definitely a great place to spend the first weekend in Sydney.
We booked the Pink House mainly because it had free wi-fi which is hard to come by in Australia. However, after spending a few minutes in the Pink House, we decide that we won’t be staying here for very long – definitely one of the worst hostels we have ever seen. We decide to spend the night and look for a new place tomorrow since there are a dozen other backpackers in the area.
The Pink House has a bar tour organized tonight that goes to World Bar – free entry, free drinks – a backpackers dream. To start the night off we pick up some ‘goon’ from the liquor store – really bad really cheap wine.
We decide to make the most of our night at the Pink House and drink some goon outside on the patio and make some new friends. After several glasses of good we are ready to head down to World Bar. World Bar is packed and the place to be on a Thursday night. We grab our free drinks and head out to the patio. A few shots from their “teapots” later and I decide I need to remove myself from the bar and head immediately back to the Pink House. Needless to say, I am not feeling so well tonight and have one of my worst nights here (Andrew can attest he has never seen me this bad). I have learned a valuable lesson – do NOT drink the ‘goon’!
